Financial Data Sharing Dashboard & Plaid Integration
Created a self-service dashboard that empowered Discover account holders to securely connect and disconnect their financial accounts with third-party applications and the integration of Plaid. The experience was designed to simplify consent management, provide visibility into active data-sharing relationships, and give users greater control over their personal financial information. By streamlining account linking and permission management, the solution improved transparency, security, and overall user confidence.

OVERVIEW
Designed and delivered a secure self-service experience that enabled Discover account holders to view, connect, and disconnect their financial accounts with trusted third-party applications. Through Plaid integration, the solution provided a seamless and secure way to manage data-sharing permissions, giving customers greater transparency and control over their financial information. The dashboard centralized visibility into connected accounts and the specific data being shared, empowering users to confidently manage their financial connections while supporting security, compliance, and trust.
THE CHALLENGE
A key challenge was designing around technical constraints that affected the overall user experience. Customers could not disconnect all third-party applications at once and were required to revoke access individually for each connection. Additionally, the absence of vendor logos made it more difficult to quickly identify connected applications. To mitigate these limitations, the experience prioritized clear labeling, thoughtful information architecture, and intuitive account management features, helping users confidently manage their shared financial data while maintaining transparency and trust.
MY ROLE
As the Lead UX Designer and Strategist, I led the end-to-end experience, from defining UX strategy and user flows to designing and delivering intuitive solutions. I collaborated with cross-functional teams to align user needs with business goals and create seamless, user-centered experiences for both the mobile and web platforms.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES
The project focused on improving transparency, control, and security for customers managing their financial data. Key objectives included providing easy access to a third-party sharing dashboard, enabling customers to view shared accounts and the data being accessed, and allowing them to revoke or deny access when needed. Additional goals included displaying consent dates, incorporating educational FAQs, and ensuring compliance with Section 1033 of the CFPB Open Banking Rule. The solution also integrated with Plaid, aimed to reduce customer complaints through a more intuitive experience, and enhanced data security by replacing traditional screen-scraping methods with a more secure data-sharing framework.
